Science - What i would take to a desert island

THE ICECAPS HAVE MELTED. MOST OF THE LAND IN THE WORLD HAS BEEN FLOODED AND YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS ARE ON A BOAT IN THE MIDDLE OF KNOW WHERE. YOUR BOAT IS SUDDENLY STRUCK BY A STORM AND YOU BECOME SHIPWRECKED ON A SMALL ISLAND. YOU ARE ONLY ALLOWED TO SELECT 20 ITEMS FOR YOUR GROUP. A SECOND BOAT IS TRAVELLING NEAR YOU BUT WILL NOT BE ABLE TO REACH YOU FOR 1 MONTH SO YOU NEED TO GATHER ENOUGH SUPPLIES TO LAST FOR A MONTH.

In your group you need to:

1. Make a list of the 10 things you are going to collect.
2. Draw a map of the island.
4. Draw and label the activities you will be involved with.
  • Renewable energy sites ( wind, solar, hydro, )
  • Living / shelter
  • Growing food
  • Write 3 sentences about how your group is going to live for the next month.
When you are drawing your map you need to list 4 places you can have renewable energy sites.

10 things i would keep.

1. Plastic bottle (i know how to make a filter)
2. A pocket knife
3. First aid kit
4. Gun and amunition
5. Axe (better than a saw because it has more uses)
6. Flint and steel to make fire (not matches or lighter because they run out)
7. A big pot for cooking
8. A sun hat
9. Sturdy leather shoes
10. Emergency torch ( solar power, winder, radio)

This is my island design. I think it is pretty good because it has coconut trees, a bridge over a stream, hills and wild animals.

How i survived on the island.
The first thing i would need to do is find clean water. i walked around the island a bit to see what i could find and there was a river that separated the island into two parts. I chopped down a tree with my axe so i could get across to the other side. The river water looked ok to drink but a made a filter with my plastic bottle to make sure.
The next thing i need to do is get food. There were coconut trees where i was shipwrecked and they have coconut milk and food in them. I would also hunt for some food.
I would also need to make shelter first to stop the sun from hitting me and getting sunburnt but also for somewhere to sleep and incase it rains. If i make the roof out of leaves or an old tarpoline that we found i could collect water from the roof to drink.
At night i need to make a fire to keep mosquitoes away and to cook food and signal for help. Im will be able to cook craps, shark, fish, crayfish, seaweed, clams, mussells and any birds or rabbits i might catch.
If there was any cows or goats i could milk them and i could eat birds eggs.

Renewable energy

If you had access to any materials you wanted how would you make renewable energy for your island?

1. Solar panels. I would put these near the beach so they arent in the shade in the sunniest part of the island.
2. Wind turbine. I would put this on the highest point of the island facing where the wind comes from.
3. Wave power generator. I would put this out at sea where the biggest waves are.
4. Water wheel. This would go by a big waterfall in the river. The water pushes it around when it falls on it. I hook it up to an old washing machine.

What food would you grow on your island?

Spinach, coco for chocolate, Brocholi, banana, feijoa, grapefruit, potatoes, sweet potato, peas,
